The FDA has announced it is considering requiring drugmakers to include wellbutrin in all prescription drug packages, but the FDA has not yet set a date to make a decision.
The FDA said in a news release that it has not determined a time frame for when a decision will be made, but that it will continue to look for other options for drugmakers.
Wellbutrin is a blood pressure medication that is available over-the-counter, and is also used to treat asthma.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has said it has issued an advisory to doctors on the use of Wellbutrin for high blood pressure.
According to the advisory, Wellbutrins effect on blood pressure may outweigh its effect on other health conditions.
It said that wellbutrines ability to reduce pressure on the brain and heart is more important than its ability to lower blood pressure on other organs.
Wells also has been found to help control blood sugar, the drug’s maker said.
It is also a blood clotting agent that can prevent blood clots from forming in blood vessels and arteries.
Well butrines blood pressure is typically between 100 and 120/80 mmHg (3.3 to 6.1 inches) and is usually taken as a two-dose pill twice a day, said the FDA.
A second dose of Well butrins blood pressure treatment will be needed at least four times a week.
The drug’s makers say it is not currently recommended to use wellbutriins as a treatment for high cholesterol, and the FDA says it is unclear whether it is safe to use for that purpose.
The new guidelines, which came in the wake of an ongoing investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), also include a new recommendation for doctors to be on the lookout for any new information about Wellbutres effects on blood cholesterol and blood pressure and to be vigilant about their use.
“A person with a high cholesterol level and a high bloodpressure level are the two most common risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease, and those risk factors are often not well understood and not adequately treated,” the FDA said.
“Therefore, the FDA is urging doctors to use Wellbutrias and other blood pressure medicines only as directed by their doctor and to monitor their blood pressure carefully.”
