“My mother had a condition called hypotension, and she had this weird reaction to taking a pill,” said her son, Joshua, 17.
“She couldn’t take it.
She was having this strange thing that made her feel like she was in heaven.”
Joshua says that her mom was having blood pressure issues for years before she had any problems with her blood pressure.
“It wasn’t a normal reaction,” he said.
“My mom had a couple of episodes where she’d wake up and she’d have this weird feeling and she was like, ‘Mom, I’m having a big heart attack.’
I’m like, this is why I don’t have blood pressure.”
Joshua has been taking a blood pressure medicine called Tylenol for the past six months, and says it’s helped him manage his blood pressure and keep his cholesterol levels under control.
“I’m able to do a lot more and keep my cholesterol under control,” Joshua said.
He also says that when he has a blood clot, he doesn’t have to worry about the blood pressure getting too high or too low.
Joshua says he’s also learned to control his diet.
“When I go out for dinner, I eat a lot of carbs, like whole grains, nuts, and some leafy greens, and I think that makes me feel better,” he explained.
“But I feel so much better when I have to do that because I’m eating healthy.”
Joshua’s mom is now on a treatment called Zocor, which has proven to be effective for his blood sugar levels.
“The first time I took it, I was like OK, I guess I’m over it,” Joshua admitted.
“Then the second time, I started seeing improvements and my cholesterol went down a little bit.”
Josh says that he’s not a diabetic and doesn’t feel like he needs to worry.
“There’s not enough sugar in the blood, so that’s not going to help you get diabetes,” Joshua explained.
Joshua is not alone in his blood pressures issues.
“In the last three years, I’ve had about a dozen patients who have blood pressures that were extremely high and then had a normal life,” Dr. David T. Shanks, director of the division of cardiovascular care at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, said.
Dr. Shank explained that the body responds to a high blood pressure by reducing the amount of oxygenated blood that comes into the blood vessels.
“So if you have a high-pressure system, your body is responding to oxygenated water and it’s slowing down the blood flow,” Dr, Shanks explained.
In other words, if your blood pressure is high, it slows down the amount oxygenated, and you’re less able to absorb the nutrients and other nutrients that come into the body.
Joshua said that his blood tests came back normal.
“They were really good,” Joshua revealed.
“And I had a lot less of a pulse than I normally do.”
Joshua said he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year and had to take insulin to help manage the high blood sugar.
“Because I didn’t have the medication, I wasn’t able to keep up with the glucose,” Joshua added.
He has also been taking blood pressure medication since last summer.
He said that the medication has helped him stay healthy and that it’s made him feel like “I should be able to take care of myself.”
“My heart was racing every time I felt a little little bit of a little bump, and that was like a little warning sign that I needed to have the blood work checked,” Joshua continued.
Joshua’s doctor has been recommending the blood test to other family members and friends to help them manage their blood pressure before it gets too high.
Joshua believes that other people have experienced similar blood pressure changes.
“That’s just a symptom of the condition,” Joshua noted.
“People have these little bumps, and it kind of seems like it’s not there anymore.”
Dr. Tylensky, the doctor who prescribed Joshua the medication and who is also a registered dietitian, told CBS News that the medicine has helped some people to manage their hypertension.
“Our goal is to help people manage their symptoms and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke,” Dr Tylesky said.
Doctors have even been prescribing the medication to people with preexisting conditions.
“Some of our patients have had prior history of hypertension, which we can detect in a blood test,” Dr Shanks said.
However, he said that some people who have preexistent conditions could benefit from the medicine, too.
“If people are at risk for having hypertension, we can help them lower their blood pressures,” Dr Trzesniewski said.
Joshua and his mom are also in the process of finding a doctor who will prescribe the medication.
“We’re hoping to find a physician who’s willing to prescribe this medication for my mom,” Joshua
